[ It doesn't take Jim long to find her, feeling relieved to see the event close without violence - he's got a petty streak like every other human to exist, but not so much that he'd rather people get hurt to be vindicated. Preventative measures are just that, and he's happy about it. ]

Hey drunky, [ he teases upon catching sight of her. ]

( he finds her. she's in a dress in deep purple, the back free, hair piled atop her head in a way that looks complicated and artful but really isn't, eyes lined darkly with kohl.

she's got a bottle of something in one hand. )

If that's how you're gonna be, I won't share. ( she lifts it. )

[ Jim smiles and holds his hands up in a gesture of surrender, though his bright blue gaze flicks of her get-up, appreciative. She cleans up nicer than he does; uniforms are far less aesthetically pleasing. ]

Hey babe. [ Total re-do. See? ]

( she takes a step closer, holding the bottle out to him. not swaying even a little despite all the drinks she's had and the high heels she's wearing under this dress. )

Gonna walk me home?

[ Jim takes the bottle, though he just holds it for the moment, and offers Dutch his arm. Not faux-stuffy manners, he just seems relaxed about it. ]

As if I'd ever refuse. [ He's probably a little dusty, a twig or leaf stuck to the back of his coat, maybe smelling of whatever spacey rocket fuel Gundams exhaust smells like. ]

( she could have made fun of faux-stuffy manners, but it's been long enough a day that she doesn't miss the opportunity when it doesn't come. so she just links her arm through his. )

( cheerfully enough. she doesn't actually mind spacey rocket fuel smell at all. )

You know, I've heard that a time or two, as well.

[ Weird how they're both cheerful after a night chock full of politics and potential doom. Is it just the hopefulness of this event that has him feeling on the bright side of things, or Dutch wanting to see him? Who fucking knows. ]

( dutch has no idea why he's cheerful, but he seems inclined to see positivity in things in general, so maybe that's just it. she's cheerful because she's gotten to dress up, she's had plenty to drink, byerly makes an entertaining almost-date no matter how often she tells him he's insufferable and there's the potential of sex with jim to look forward to. )

Oh, yeah. Parties like this are fun so long as you get to skip all the political bullshit.

Yeah, that's about how I feel about it, too. [ And yet, in the future, he's signed up to be on this heckin council anyway. She can be smug at him over that later. ]

You want to head back and watch everyone's miserable faces when they realize how long of a walk it is to Olympia?

( and oh, she's definitely going to be smug at him about the council thing later, if only because she called it. that's what you get for giving a shit, jim kirk. that's what you get. you sign up for shit like that while dutch remains free. )

[ Free his ass, they're all stuck here. She'll get roped into something sooner or later.

Anyway, Jim has a bit from that bottle as they make their way back to (conveniently nearby) Wyver, and while he's not drunk, he can't complain. ]

Some of those hand-wringers on the network are going to be thrilled to call me wrong, later, [ he says, and sounds perfectly upbeat about it. And then: ] Don't suppose you feel like crashing at my place.

( no one is pulling her strings. that’s as close to freedom as dutch ever gets, she figures. )

Good thing you were wrong. ( she shrugs. ) Thought you were never gonna ask. ( not that she needs him to ask, she’s perfectly capable of taking matters into her own hands. but it’s nice that he asks, the casual nature of it. )
