Would you consider yourself a diplomat, Captain Kirk?

You're the second person to ask me that and it's slightly worrying. I do regularly act as a diplomat in my work, yes.

I'm not surprised. A uniform can have any number of demands and expectations; that, and you're obviously a capable sort.

I'm only asking because it seems the cities are moving forward with a joint council and I'm curious who might be getting involved.

I think it would be irresponsible for anyone with experience not to volunteer, ultimately.

And even with minimal to no experience, a knack for communication and compromise is just as valuable. Voices need to be heard. So often the fighting starts when the talking stops.

Do you have any idea who else is going or is it pretty up in the air right now?

[revlon]

No telling. Which is precisely why I'm considering it, myself.

One of the only things I hate more than politics is inaction. I expect you can relate to that.

We're both in, huh.

I suppose we are. I never did do well with just twiddling my thumbs.

Although I feel you have a touch more experience than I do in this field.

[ Espionage calls for a sense of diplomacy... in a way. But this is different. She wasn't part of the peace talks to end the war, she wasn't present for the signing of any treaties. But she knows how governments and societies operate and what can bring them crashing down. ]

It's gonna be a hell of a learning curve. My experience comes down 50/50 between tense negotiations with entities hostile to the Federation and total chaos during first contacts.

Fortunately I'm a quick study. We'll see how much sway this council holds over both factions.

That's the real interesting point. Will this be constructive at all, or just a front to get us to shut up?

I worry a little about the lack of integration with the natives, too.

[revlon]

A concern I raised during the coalition. It won't sit well with the locals if we're paid special attention whilst their needs are overlooked. They're already unhappy.

That'll have to be among the first things we focus on. Trying to behave as an autonomous state while living on top of each other isn't going to work.

It never does.

I'm glad to know you'll be a part of this. I hope I recognise a few more faces once we start meeting.

I'm sure we'll meet everyone soon, and that the lack of vetting will make this go totally smooth.
