The gems, maybe? I don't know, though, I'm totally clueless. I was relieved to be in uniform and leave the fashion choices behind. What did the spider look like?

It was vintage. Red bakelite body with brass legs and head. It went with almost everything. A replacement is necessary to bright the rather dull clothing options we have here.

What kind of uniform?

Well, consider where you live, I guess. Gold is frowned on in Wyver, I have no idea what Olympia feels like about colors.

That is exactly what it is, in fact. I work in space.

No, I've always been an officer. The past several years, at home, we were exploring deep in uncharted space.

Does the rest of uncharted space have more or less kidnapping than this place?

For the average traveler, probably a lot less. It's our job to investigate the unknown, though, so we end up in the middle of a lot of weirdness.

Well, this is the weirdest place I've ever been, other than high school.

I'd willing eat a lot of mystery meat lunch special if it meant not having to deal with giant creepy spiders and getting caught in the middle of some fantasy novel take on the Sharks versus the Jets.
