Captain Kirk is magnetic - not a celebrity magnetic, because there's nothing deliberately performative about it; instead there's something that's half enchanting and half infuriating about the way he holds himself and his bright eyes, drawing people in whether they like it or not. There's something deliberately withheld while he chats up the crowd, though, sedate and polite, still charming but clearly a little tired.
He passes by Ji-seok after saying goodbye to an old professor of his, but slows his step. "Mr Baek, right?"
For a brief second Ji-seok's eyebrows disappear into his hair but it's paired with a bright smile as he nods confirmation and then turns toward him to offer his hand to shake. "That would definitely be me, yes."
"I apologize for not introducing myself first, but I seem to have always been beaten to the punch." He doesn't seem too put off by it though, making a sort of easy communication. "I've been grateful to be able to sit in on your lectures while I have the free time." 'Free time' while he looks into transferring to a new post. It happens.
Jim takes his hand in a firm grip, his smile turning more genuine as he does. It's his paranoia (courtesy of Section 31) that prompted him to look up files of the people who show up multiple times to his lectures-- though once they check out, there's no harm in remembering the cute ones, right?
"Don't worry, it's been uh, a little surprisingly busy even on my end. James Kirk, it's nice to meet you." See? They can introduce themselves now. He's still moving, inadvertently guiding the other man with him to get the heck out of the hallway which is rapidly becoming crowded from a combination of the lecture schedule continuing on its way and people coming to peer at Captain Kirk. "You free for a bit?"
No harm at all, no. "It's good to meet you too." Ji-seok moves alongside Jim easily, perhaps understanding the usefulness of getting out of the hallway. For now, he looks over at the other man as he walks with him, nodding. "I don't have any pressing matters at hand lately. I can definitely spare some time."
Eventually they Escape the crowding of people as the hallway opens up. He's been relaxed this entire time and having the breathing room only seems to facilitate that. He doesn't seem to have that same kind of time to peer at Captain Kirk like he's an aquarium vibe, which is. A Plus.
"Good. Because I could use a drink and some company, if you're interested." Jim doesn't try and put any coyness on that: it's a come-on, and he's not disguising it. Though he does follow it up with a more subdued, "We could chat about whatever you've been waiting to ask me."
The latter is an out if he'd like to beg off. Jim seems easy-going; he won't mind either way.
The lack of coyness is appreciated, especially since that means he can just nod slightly, gaze carding over at him briefly. "I haven't taken much time to relax. A drink and some company sound great." He doesn't need the out.
"I'll follow your lead," he says, smile a little crooked this time. You know, to the drinks.
Excellent. It was either him or the very lovely Betazoid woman-- but he thinks she might have given up about when Jim's train of thought began to stray towards memories of being irradiated. He can't really blame her. Telepaths have it rougher than people give them credit for.
"Tell me about yourself," Jim prompts with a real smile. The nice thing about being on campus is that it's a very short walk to liquor in just about every direction. Cadets study hard and unwind hard; humanity at its finest, in Jim's opinion. He knows a more sedate joint he thinks will be appropriate and heads in that direction.
